No this is NOT a meme. Don't be afraid I am NOT going to tag anyone.
Posting for points
A member's post last week mentioned memes. Since that post became a "Members Only" post I am not going to quote the post but I am going to paraphrase it.... The problem with ActiveRain is people posting jokes, recipes and meme's for points.
The meme that swept the real estate blogosphere in December 2006 and beyond...
Who started the meme that swept through ActiveRain December 2006 and just won't die? Paul Chaney. Many know Paul Chaney from ActiveRain but he was not a member when he started the meme out in the real estate blogosphere. Paul was then blogging and working for Blogging Systems (a company that sells blogs to the real estate community.)
Paul Chaney wrote the book on real estate blogging... Realty Blogging
The First (?) ActiveRain Meme
Paul tagged Mary McKnight of RSS Pieces (real estate blogging) who tagged Jay Thompson, The Phoenix Real Estate Guy who introduced the meme to ActiveRain. Did Jay post The First (?) ActiveRain Meme for points? Hardly Jay posted a grand total of 9 posts in the month of December 2006. He was already on a sabbatical from ActiveRain when he shared this meme with ActiveRain. Jay quoting Mary McKnight explains memes to AcitiveRain:
"I was memed this morning by my friend and competitor, Paul Chaney of Blogging Systems. For those of you that don't know what a meme is: It's a thought stream carried from one person to another, or, to be more precise, a "unit of cultural information transferable from one mind to the other," so says Wikipedia. Basically, it's the blogging equivalent of a chain letter. The cool thing about blogging is that the meme can be tracked. Entire websites are devoted to doing just that. Some memes, however, are deliberate...sort of a social game to build community and engender relationships."
Meme posts outside ActiveRain - same meme no points
Kevin Boer on 3 Oceans Real Estate wrote me meme memed
Greg Swann on the Bloodhound Blog wrote I'm it - and I don't want to be . . .
Greg Tracy of BlueRoof Real Estate Blog Salt Lake City Real got creative... Greg changed things around but it is still the theme of the meme (theme and meme rhyme for those on ActiveRain who call it a "Me Me") ... Greg Tracy wrote his BlueRoof + Sellsius =
Blogging experts did the meme on their "real" blogs - it's not about points
Pat Kitano participated in that meme in December 2006 Blogosphere Game and gave this insight to memes:
"Meme tagging ! The blogosphere provides its participants with "charade"-like games to break the ice... and frankly, the party like atmosphere is really welcome this time of year..."
Yes the third or fourth time you get that same meme it gets a little old. Just say no. Or be creative like Linda Davis was when she got tagged again recently...OK so I lied. Too good to play a game of tag in the blogosphere? Silliness? Childish? Just for points? Before new members decide they are going to be all business and spend their time on ActiveRain posting listings or posting over and over what a great real estate person they are, the ought to listen to the real estate blogging experts Paul Chaney, Mary McKnight, Pat Kitano, Jim Cronin... people who really know something about blogging. Don't be fooled and mired in the mediocrity that sometimes pervades ActiveRain. It's not about points!
Share a link here to a meme outside ActiveRain
I got memed twice when that meme first started so I did one on my other blog. If you did the 5 things about me meme on your other blog share the link in the comments here please.
If you did not do this meme on another blog but admire a blogger like Christine Forgionne, Frances Flynn Thorsen, Maureen Frances, Kristal Kraft, Bonnie Erickson, Ann Cummings on her first outside blog (on RealTown Blogs), Teresa Boardman, Brian Brady, Sellsius Real Estate Blog... look at their blogs for the meme. See if this meme is there. If you find real estate bloggers you admire participated in the meme share the outside ActiveRain link here.
edit please don't share links to your ActiveRain memes here. It is connected if you did it right.
