I blog on Wordpress too, big deal...

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties Licensed in Connecticut

WordPress is great! I have almost carte blanche control of things. (Perhaps, in the scheme of things, that is not the best idea in the world, to give me control like that, but that is another post.)

I do like my WordPress site, and will like it even more the day I hit that sweet spot, sit back and say... ahhh... this is it... I am pleased with what I see.

Although knowing me, that is a pipe dream.

Blogging Queen of Litchfield CountyBut what I don't have on WordPress is interaction! I find that makes me NOT want to post there. I know, I know, the interaction I have on ActiveRain is not the consumer, it is other real estate professionals from all over North America, people looking to gain the same thing I am by blogging on ActiveRain.

What good is that? Let's face it, you aren't buying homes. You may refer a client or two my way, but I have to admit there is not a big pool of people looking to move to my area... I don't sell in a hot metro location. But hey, I love it when I do get those calls or emails. Usually it is an area I don't cover.

I have successfully directed them to another ActiveRainer though. (Matchmaker?)

Good Karma is good, right?

I am motivated to do better when people respond and react to what I am writing. That is what I don't have on WordPress. I will often re-post on WordPress when my post has passed the taste test on ActiveRain. I know, some camps say that steals my Google MILK, some camps say it doesn't. Take your pick.

So, I do blog on WordPress, but it is here on ActiveRain I learn and grow. Thanks to all of you who tell me when I have done well or I bombed terribly. It has been my testing ground, my learning experience. It has served me well!

Recently my efforts have been focused on learning how to get the consumer to respond to what I have to say!

I guess, in the bigger picture, if they don't respond, but they do email or call, I have succeeded. So perhaps I should just be content with the interaction I get right here.

Sometimes you don't know when you have it good until you take that step outside.

I am sure there are benefits to both, but personally, I just don't have the time to devote to another site.

I blog on both, and here are my 2 cents.

Ego-wise, I prefer posting here w/ the commetns and interaction; business wise, I get better leads on WP...and they are usually in the form of phone calls and emails to set up appts.  The ones that found me on WP blog tend to be better leads...and they have often read several posts (it's easier for them to find them there) and many have read my bio.  They also love that I'm a woman owned biz.

If getting biz is your higher priority (and it is for me), I would highly recommend that you post FIRST on your WP site and then on AR after it's indexed in google.  I will usually change the title slightly and first line or so and a few other things and link to my original post.  By doing this, often both show up in the google results.

I save my higher quality content for my WP site, and then repost on AR.  And, then I post more often on AR for the interaction and for some of my "ads" and random blogs...with the purpose of more links to my WP blog and more ways to be found.  The WP blog is pure...no junk.  (I have plenty of junk on here).

I still get the interacrion and feedback I need/crave here, as well as reblogs...all passing along extra google juice to my original WP post.

Roger, thank you! I am smiling!

Kathy, I am lucky, I am the one in the team that is responsible for this.

Debbie, your two cents is really worth quite a bit more than that, thank you! If I can just keep my ego out of sight until AFTER I post on WP....

Judy, we do, don't we. As a matter of fact I was thinking about milk, real milk, raw milk, the other day and was a bit sad that I can't help myself anymore.

Andrea: Great post and your points are well worth pondering. My place in all of this is a little different because as you know, I don't sell real estate, I'm in the title and escrow side of things. Besides Activerain I have blogs on Tumblr and Blogger. I get decent traffice to both of them. My blogs are mostly about hyper-local community stuff and of course, social media. I can tell you that 90% of my community based posts rank very well on Google and that is mostly due to Activerain.

One of the things I truly admire about you and your blog is you share your process. You share what you're thinking about behind the post, your questions, concerns, methods, accidents, and light bulb moments. I appreciate that, and also enjoy it.

Most of the time I don't get all that many comments here. Once in a while I kind of hit the jackpot, but not on a regular basis. Yet, I am getting a good steady stream of readers everyday and its growing. I consider myself fortunate to have many who message, email, or call me with questions about the Pacific Northwest and I get referrals.

Andrea - Thx.  You're so sweet.  Because my WP blog is now active, my posts index quickly...certainly within an hour (and prob. faster, but I don't check that often).  I can usually wait before posting to AR.  And, if I get feedback or ideas on AR, I can always update my WP one.

Andrea:  I have a WP site, but have neglected it as of late, because I just wasn't finding that I was getting much "bang" out of it.   Plus, there is definitely no real feedback or enjoyment to posting there either.  I don't know, maybe because I'm a mortgage lender, the response I seek is different?  Not sure ... but will have to consider getting back on my horse and rising it over on WP ... lots to think over ...

Andrea, I see good points in both areas although I think you would still get much better exposure on Active Rain, particularly any Localism posts you write.

Andrea, the feedback you might get from a consumer that reads any of your blogs would be the phone call and that trumps a comment on a blog post any day

I don't have a word press account. I have never even gone to the site! I can barely keep up with AR since my operation. I love the interaction and the help and mounds of unsolicited information given here.

Andrea - I have two Drupal blogs, a WordPress blog, and an outside AR blog along with my regular AR blog.  The only blog I get comments on is in AR.  However, I have a Facebook Page for my community where I get a lot of interaction (membership has grown to 1,300 Fans and I love it when one of my FB posts goes viral (only happened once).  I have contests and games.  Then I post teaser headlines and links over to my blog sites to drive traffic there.  The feedback I look for on my Drupal and WordPress sites is on Google Analytics - how many people are visiting the site each day AND where is the position of my blog on Google for keywords.

Andrea I am sure the reason you are not getting any comments is because nobody views the content. Unfortunately you have to work on SEO for a site you own yourself. You don't have the power of AR behind you in terms of SEO. As I have told you though that can be fixed:)
