Coping With Stress

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Big Bear Village

As I am sure you are all very aware, our profession can be extremely stressful. You can spend hours and hours putting a deal together only to have it fall out at the eleventh hour. At times you have to deal with buyers and sellers who are just as stressed out as you are, and act out accordingly. Sometimes you get blamed for occurences that you have no control of, and situations that aren't your fault. It seems like some Realtors are in the business just to have something to do and don't take their job seriously. You call and email them to get something done, and you don't hear back from them. It all adds up and sometimes makes you feel like your head is about to explode.

If you let it, stress can take over your whole life. It can affect your relationships with both your co-workers and your family. When the pressure starts to get to me, I just stop and think for a minute. There is only so much you can control in your life. I can't control what the market is doing, I can just do my best. I sit down at the begining of the week and think about what I need to get done. Then I break it down into daily chores. This allows me to just concentrate on doing what I need to do that day. It stops me from worrying about the future and to concentrate on the present. At the end of the week, I can look back and be pleased with my progress, or see what I didn't get done and make adjustments accordingly. I also make sure that I make time to be with my wife and friends. I love my career and take it very seriously, but there is nothing more important than family.

I agree with you put it down on paper.  Do the important ones first.  Mark them off as you go.  That way you can see how much you have done.  By getting the important stuff done fist you will take the pressure off.

Been there, Done that...
I always think it is best when facing stress to take some time to organize and regroup.

Whatever works for you, take the time and do it. Nothing is worth your peace of mind.

Isreal,  That is great that you have a way to beat the stress monster.  I agree we have to keep it in check!  So true.  The family part as well.
