We have some amazing innovators and entrepreneurs in the real estate industry. I had the good fortune to work with one at our real estate company and while starting ActiveRain. It's easy to spot these guys (or gals). They have a passion for the industry which is contagious, are looking to solve a problem and will not let anything get in their way. They have a way of bringing out passion in those around them (that's the contagious part, right?).
I've been getting to know one of these people. I'd like to introduce you to him. His name is Joel Beasley and he created Merge. (and he reminds me so much of Jonathan Washburn, one of the co-founders of ActiveRain, that it's kind of strange speaking to him........the similarities are eerie, in a good way)
Five minutes on the phone and you can tell he has passion. A little longer and you know that he's spotted a problem and has set out to solve it.

The value of the real estate agent has, to some in the general public, been eroding. Many people, outside our industry, look at real estate and think the internet has somehow made real estate agents less valuable. They don't need an agent to find their home. They can do it online. They don't need an agent to sell, they can place it online where everyone goes to find their next house........We know, however, that simply having access to a ton of information doesn't put you in any better position to make decisions unless you can interpret that information and have the experience to make solid decisions because of your expertise. Expertise is not built by consuming large amounts of data. It's built by working inside an industry on a day to day basis and getting intimately familiar with the nuances.
And we know finding the house is just the tip of the iceberg. We know that placing your home on the market to sell is the first step, in a long process to completing the sale. We know that going online to find our next home is only the beginning of a journey that most people will make only a few times in their life. The real value of a real estate agent is the knowledge to bring every piece of a real estate transaction together and keep it moving forward toward a successful sale.
How many pieces and moving parts are involved in that process? More important, how many of the things a real estate agent brings to a transaction are actually conveyed to our buyers and sellers?
