Life in San Francisco - an evening walk to the Buena Vista
Popular with visitors and residents alike, there's something special about the Buena Vista, a "saloon" which opened in 1916. It's location near Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square and the terminus of the favorite Powell/Hyde St cable car line is appealing, and it's a fine place for a casual meal.
But -- the BV as it's affectionately known is really all about the Irish Coffee!
Last night as we ate supper at our place, looking down at the bay, we decided a bit of a walk and a BV Irish coffee was the best way to cap off a busy day. Our route took us along Larkin Street on Russian Hill, down a staircase to the Buena Vista at the corner of Hyde and Beach. Hmmmm....there's something about that Irish coffee! A stroll through Aquatic Park and then back home, a delightful hour or so.
Come live your San Francisco dream - enjoy an evening walk to the Buena Vista -- highly recommended.
Such a great area to live in where you can walk to these places that people come from all over the world to see. And you're just down the street. That Irish Coffee does sound good.
Lottie, what a view and I would think with scenery like that lots of people would be out walking. How fun to live in an area where you have such options for an evening stroll and to visit shops and restaurants within walking distance!
Lottie - I think I have driven by the BV a dozen times in my trips to the City but have never stopped in. I will have to stop in next time I am town.
Lottie, thanks for sharing your beautiful photographs and history of Buena Vista.
What a beautiful walk that must have been. We went to Buena Vista about a year ago and had one of their tasty drinks too!
I hope you can figure out how to escape for an evening, Mark--maybe a special dinner at Ana Mandara followed by Irish coffee at the Buena Vista!
