DRIPPING SPRINGS — Over a bottle of tequila three years ago, Shane Bordeau and Jim Sampson started working on plans to create Twisted X Brewing Co. The friends, who had worked together at a local high-tech startup company, invested $200,000 of their own money and started making their Mexican-style lager and pale ale out of a temporary brewery in Cedar Park.Satisfied that theres growth potential for their beer, theyre moving Twisted X to a permanent home in Dripping Springs. Construction on the farmhouse-style site, which will have a tasting area, will begin this year.Twisted X will join a growing number of adult beverage companies that call the Dripping Springs area home.Local leaders arent sure why Dripping Springs, long called the gateway to the Hill Country, has become a magnet for makers of beer, wine, cider and vodka. But they hope to take advantage of the trend.Officials with the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau are creating new brochures to promote the areas various beverage businesses as well as lodging in the area, and theyre expecting a large crowd for the citys Dripping with Taste Wine & Food Festival in September.
