It’s not too late to enroll in Greenbrier Valley Theatre’s Summer Camp. The camp offers youth ages 5 to 14, an opportunity to discover, embrace and unleash their imaginations in a safe, fun learning environment.
GVT Education Director Courtney Susman says the two-week camp is designed to build self-confidence, effective communication skills and the opportunity to share and develop their creative voices.
Campers will study improvisation, movement, storytelling, creative writing, creative problem-solving, stage combat, creative dramatics, voice, acting, design and theatre artistry, technical theatre and theatre craft.
Using these skills – under the guidance of professional faculty – students will write, develop and produce their own play, which will be performed in a special showcase before family and friends on the final day of camp.
The students, Susman said, will have ownership over the plays as they design the sets, costumes, sound and lights.
“We hope each student will not only have a fun experience but will also leave camp with confidence, creativity and increased communication and teamwork skills,” Susman said, adding those skills are essential in all aspects of life.
Camp begins July 23 and runs through August 5.
Children 5 to 8, attend from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Ages 9 to 14 attend from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
