We need to start making everyone aware of the new problem that is taking over many areas. No longer are move in ready seller occupied homes safe from destruction.
Recently on our way to a closing, we went to do our final walkthrough. On the way we received a call from the Listing Agent informing us that there had been a break-in in the house and the police were called. The police arrived and it was discovered that some very tricky thieves, kicked in two doors and made their way to a professionally finished basement where they preceeded to rip out the ceiling and take every inch of copper they saw.
Interesting is they knew which tiles carried the copper lines and they cut from the a/c, furnace, water heater, water softener, etc. every inch in a small 1600 sq.ft. home where the copper would probably only bring $200.00 at the scrap yard. Well, these clever thieves, seem to be working in groups to have someone keep watch and the others do the destruction. As you can see from the photo that there was much destruction.
What everyone needs to know is that these thieves knew exactly where to go and what to do. Had they come through as a potential buyer? Did they come during an open house? This was a seller occupied home and they had been gone for the weekend.
Pretty scary isn't it. We need to really start being cautious and report suspicious activity
If you wondered if we closed today,,,, I think not and want to thank the theives for stealing the joy from an innocent buyer and hard working seller who was bringing money to the table to close instead of doing a short sale or walking away.
Get a job and leave the hardworking people and their possessions alone. You're Welcome!
