'We Want To Steal Something!' in Cape Canaveral, FL

Several days ago, I was at a listing presentation and I had left my phone in the car. When I returned to my car, I noticed that someone from the same phone number had called me twice without leaving a message. I returned the call and introduced myself and asked how could I help them. The response; 'We want to steal something!' I chuckle. I laugh. I knew where this conversation was heading.

The caller had gotten my name and number from my listing sign. They were driving around and wanted more information on my listing. I gave them all the details and asked them what they were looking for. They asked if I knew of any listings on the ocean. I kept asking for their criteria; price, bedrooms, etc. The response was 'We Want To Steal Something!'

I informed them that I was in the car and asked permission to call them later when I could look up information as we talked. When I did call them back, I asked again what their criteria was and the response once again was 'We Want To Steal Something!' They told me that they would discuss what they were looking for and call me right back.

I'm still holding my breath. I know I could be wrong, but my experience tells me that they are not serious buyers. At one point they might be, but right now they are not. Maybe they wanted to steal my car.

Hi Dana -- don't you just love this statement - my follow-up question is "What's your definition of a steal?". At that point, a conversation can begin and I can start to determine if they are a real buyer.

Good morning Diana - if their only criteria is a bargain, I'd send them a list of the foreclosures and REOs in town and tell them to meet you at the office when they decide which one they want to buy.

Diana, This is an example of buyers that could easily waste several Realtor's time.  Most properties that are listied by a Realtor are going to sell at the current market price because of the internet exposure.  These "buyers" need to run into a seller with no knowledge of the market.

Good luck!! Pretty hard to steal something in this market. A good client to work electronically. Regards, Dave
