What A Difference A Year Makes
We have an old saying in Houston, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a minute it will change.” That statement is still holding true. This time last year we watched in horror as thousands of acres burned and lakes disappeared as a result of the drought. It was unlike anything think I had ever experience in Houston and I have been here most of my life. We gasped as our beloved state parks were threatened and consumed by the raging fires.
Fast forward a year. We have had as of this writing as much as 9 inches of rain in the past 2 days and more is promised to come. With the drought still fresh on our minds no one is about to complain. We all sit here grateful for the rain and willing accept the inconvenience.
Last year, our real estate market was down. We were selling homes and experiencing a much better market than most, but not to the level we were accustomed to selling in the past. We often had “the talk” with our buyers about needing to lower the price, again. As agents, we were frustrated when we knew we had a fabulous home in a fabulous location and well priced, yet buyers were nit picking it apart because they could.
Fast forward a year. Exxon announces its moving it world headquarters to The Woodlands (Something most agents already knew) and the economy starts to rebound. Now, houses are selling like hot cakes. Some price ranges are so tight that homes are receiving multiple offers the first day. Realtors are working such long hours that we have little time for sleep. But again, with drought fresh on our minds, no one is about to complain about the ling hours. We all sit here working happily and grateful for the rain and willing to accept the lack of sleep.
What a difference a year makes!
