Many buyers like to put their own touch on their homes. Some even like to do renovation work as well! This type of purchase allows those buyers to do just that. If you are searching for a home, consider that some work on a not-so perfect house might be exactly what you need!
With visions of granite dancing in their head our buyer enters the housing market. Maybe it's the 100 degree heat, but every showing seems to end in frustration. "If only I could find the perfect house, my troubles would be over"!
Along the way there were a few near misses. The cool ranch home with hardwood flooring, if only the fence weren't chain link! And that french country home that you both loved? Yep, the utility room needed a sink to seal the deal.
Regardless of price point, the home buying game is one of compromise. I had a buyer turn up his nose at a half-million dollar home because the bathroom fixtures were dated. One trip to Home Depot and a plumber service call removed from the perfect home and he decided to keep looking. Last I heard he was still living with his in-laws...
Odds are this is not your forever home. Most buyers will stay in their new home less than five years. Frankly if folks only bought one home per lifetime I would be bankrupt! Make a list of the "must have features" in your next home. Then make sure your wants are inline with the household budget.
