"Ok Macie, Repair the Ship!"

By
Real Estate Agent

Yesterday was our family’s annual pirate party.  It began mid-afternoon, and lasted late into the evening.  In the past, I had hosted the event at my home, in autumn, as close as possible to “Talk Like a Pirate” Day around September 19th.

However, my 15 year-old grandson, John Luis is visiting from Texas, and he hadn’t been to one of our scallywag gatherings, where the gene pool dresses up as pirates and goes nuts for several hours.

My youngest daughter Jill and her husband Steve opened up their home and pool for this year’s event.  Granddaughter, Macie, put her heart and soul into creating the little ship pictured below, which populated a prominent spot in the living room.  After I snapped a photo of her.  My daughter snapped the second shot of me.  I had to crawl around a bit trying to maneuver into the tiny space.  Once the photo op was finished, my daughter said, “OK Macie, Repair the ship!”

I have a collection of great photos of the time we had together, and a great recipe.  But as you can see from my image in the picture – No makeup, messy hair, and basically looking like a horse that has been rode hard and put away wet, I will need a spa day to get back to my “normal” self.  Give me a day or so for the photos to appear!

Ahoy Myrl - I'll bet you have buried treasure in the back yard Matey. You look great in that ship but now you have to trim the sails and swab the deck :-) Where's the canons?

Kristine - It has been a full week of non-stop activity.  But, I felt I really needed to fit this year's pirate party in for John Luis' sake.  The first year I held it, the theme was "Where Pirates Go."  The recipes were from the Caribbean, and other areas around the globe.  Last year's theme was, "My Big Fat Greek Pirate Party" which was devoted to Greek cuisine and a "tortuga."  We had "Skewers" as our theme for this year.  Little kabobs, marinated tri-tips and a recipe with 4 kinds of potatoes, carrots, fennel, caraway, peppers, onions, etc.

John - There was stuff buried alright!  Some of it hopefully won't be found!  The galley is tidy this mornin'. . .It took the cannons to blow it away!

Really curious as to how and why this particular tradition got started in your family.  Got to say though, your pirate picture looks happy, natural, and healthy. Elizabeth, men don't have that "problem" cause no one ever implied they need to "make up" for being who they are naturally.  Women don't have that problem either, unless they let it happen.

Hi Myrl!  I was shocked but happy to learn that I did not miss your annual pirate gathering as I learned in your post that the date was moved up to accomodate your Texan grandson.  How fun, and Miss Marcie is a great shipbuilder!  I would pass on the spa day-you look great!

Myrl, it sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't think this is one for my family...they'll probably have me walking the the plank or whatever it's called and the plank would be located on the roof somewhere...my family is crazy...it's that or they don't like me much :)

All - I want you to know I have read each and every one of your wonderful comments.  I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest for a week now.  But, I should begin to break water once again tomorrow.  Thanks!
