What would summer be without Lakefair in Olympia? Lakefair is a big annual festival, with so many traditional events and things to do that I'm just not sure summer would be the same without it. That chance to ride the Ferris Wheel and look out over Capitol Lake. The annual surprise method of announcing the Lakefair Queen. The parade where people literally start lining their chairs along the city streets the day before the parade. The huge volleyball tournament for all ages and skill levels. The road race (or walk as the case may be....). The carnival booths where you just might go home with a stuffed animal or goldfish prize. The free musical entertainment, beckoning listeners to pull up a patch of grass and sit a while to listen. The food booths - oh you cannot forget the food booths! Local organizations and political parties have annual favorites to tempt the taste buds, raise some money, and let strangers share a picnic table and become friends. The grand finale fireworks over the lake Sunday evening.
Ahhhhhh - all of this - and more - is Lakefair in Olympia. The 2012 Lakefair begins this Wednesday, July 18th and runs through Sunday, July 22nd.
Wear your comfy shoes, bring your camera, and be ready for some Lakefair fun. (Not to mention a chance to see what seems like every single person you know in town!)
