Will our comments help other ActiveRainers with SEO exposure?

I think learning to blog is a lot like building a house. It is a step at a time. This commenting concept to deliberately help the blogger is really cool. It will  take practice but what a neat gift when you do your daily ten comments.

I had the pleasure of attending one of the great webinars put on by ActiveRain's own Bob Stewart .  In this webinar, we reviewed a few great blogs from others and Bob gave his opinions of the key word content and gave some excellent suggestions on the usage of keywords.  He went further to discuss "keyword phrases" versus "semantic phrases."  So, I got to wondering - do our comments help our fellow bloggers get any SEO exposure and emailed Kerrie, who forwarded on my email to Bob.

Bob took the time to email me a couKeywords versus semantic words in Active Rainple of times with some great explanations and examples along with his opinion how our comments could help others with SEO.  Here's how it went:

Me:  Do our comments help other bloggers?

Bob:  They have the potential to help if done right. It used to be that keyword density was a factor in rankings. So if you left a 100 word comment, it would be a good idea to use their target keyword maybe two times. Then you get an additional amount of content and you keep good keyword density.

Me:  Can you give an example?

Bob:  Today, the suggested usage of the keyword is 3-5 times. The author will generally accomplish that in their post. However, the idea of semantic keyword phrases as a complement to the main keyword phrase is where members commenting on each other's posts could help.    A semantic phrase is a similar but different phrase that would relate to the keyword phrase. For instance, if my post was about: Homes for sale with a Basement in Seattle, Then some semantic phrases could be:

houses with a basement in seattle

seattle real estate with a  basement

Seattle houses that come with basements

homes for sale in seattle with a finished basement

Me:  So we shouldn't be repeating the keyword by saying homes for sale with a basement in Seattle?

Bob:  You wouldn't want to leave that same keyword phrase in your comment. You would want to leave a semantic phrase.......similar but not the same.     You might say something like:

"Bob,   I know that homes with a  basement in Seattle are pretty desirable because they give the homeowner so much extra room. Many of my buyers like buying a home for sale with a finished basement. I'm sure homes in Seattle selling with finished basements command a higher price but I've also had many home buyers that love the idea of buying a home with an unfinished basement because it gives them a blank slate that they can mold to their own desires."

I had a "light bulb" moment because of Bob's generous time and great examples.  Thanks, Bob. I hope to make my future comments as meaningful as my future blogs.  You've given us such a great idea of how we can help our fellow ActiveRainers.
