You see this all the time in MLS and exterior photos and nobody seems to want to address them when the solution (pun) is fairly simple....Spray & Forget is a good one
So you have been in your house a while and you start noticing these ugly dark gray, black streaks on your roof. You figure that that is just a cheap roof or part of the roof aging process! Well, recently I met with a roof expert and he explained to me that those ugly streaks were algae eating my roof. Yes, eating my roof. I was shocked. He explained that with the proper care and cleaning my roof will say looking like new and last much longer if I would invest in cleaning my roof. I bit. I had my roof cleaned. Now my roof looks like new. I had a roofing inspector come afterwards to assess any damage that cleaning may have caused. He, to my delight told me that my roof looked excellent and that cleaning it was the best thing I could do to preseve the life and appearance of the roof.
This is a growing problem in neighborhoods where the roofs are all essentially the same age. You drive through and see the roofs with the black streaks and immediately think that the homes are not taken care of and the neighborhood is going down hill. Well that is correct, they are not being taken care of and they will go downhill if not addressed. Unfortunately many do not know about cleaning your roof.
Charlotte NC is know for mild winters and hot, hot summers. For those homeowners who are in direct sunlight every day it is hard to believe that algae can start to grow and eat your roof. Simple cleaning is all it takes to restore your roofs appearance.
