Fed Up!

By

I am so fed up with people who claim to know the intricacies of the complex world that is the Washington DC Real Estate market, yet say so from afar, yet not here down on the proverbial “street”.

Seriously, if I hear one more expert tell us how bad things are I think I am going to explode.

Here’s the question for the next expert you come across: “When was the last time you marketed a home? or helped a buyer find a home?”  If the answer is 1987, maybe we should not consider them an expert.

They are full of it.  What’s my proof?

In the month of November, the Chevy Chase office showed it’s first profit in more than 24 months, helping it’s clients buy and sell more than 50 properties during that 31 day span.

But, wait, it’s a bad market, so maybe I should focus on feeling bad, or how the profit we had is not what it would have been had it been 2005.

Hello!  Nothing is what it was in 2005!!!!  Not my hairline, my waist size, or the season record of my Washington Redskins. I know, maybe I should take some Human Growth Hormone and see if it fattens up!   After all, it worked for Barry Bonds.

If we (the people who actually do the business) focus on how we do business - things will be good.  This is a people business.  Yes, how we interact with people has changed - and how we market has changed, but, people have not.

So, the next time you (the person who has actually had a transaction in the last decade) hear someone say, “I hear the market is bad,” say this: “not here!”

Thank you for your positive outlook...I agree with you! Here in Virginia things are definately looking up. I am sick of the Media's negative focus. I think if they stopped talking, buyers would stop listening and do what they need to do.

But Darrin, I don't think the numbers your office was posting in 2005 had anything at all to do with local market conditions.  And I do agree totally that what we're reading about the national market has much to do with this area.  Just last weekend, I had multiple offers on a sweet little house in Brookland.  That's not exactly a sign of gloom and doom!
