Is it time for you to retire?

I just love this post and to me it is deserving of a reblog ten times more! Who says there should be a time limit on stopping the very thing you love to do?  Bill spoke with the woman and said she made a sale of $15 million.  I say you go girl and I intend to do the very same thing!

Is it time for you to retire?

At a recent convention in New Orleans, I had the rare privilege of meeting an interesting person. She was a real estate saleswoman, seventy-six years old, from California. I asked her what her largest single sale had been. She told me she had celebrated her seventy-fifth birthday with a fifteen million dollar sale!

She was one of those unique individuals who enjoy perpetual youth. When I asked her if she intended to retire someday, she said, “Retire? My blood is just as young as yours. Oh, it might be in an older container, but hardening of the arteries will never cause me to retire. I’ll only retire if I get hardening of the attitudes.” My guess is she’ll never retire.

What’s holding you back from achieving your dreams or even daring to take them seriously? If you're like most people, the answer that comes to mind may be lack: lack of time, lack of money, lack of opportunity, lack of some other external commodity or circumstance. The fact is that we're more often held back by our thoughts and attitudes than by what we don’t have.

Despite the stories about how people without money or opportunity have triumphed over major challenges, it may be difficult to believe that positive thinking can change your life, but it can. Positive thinking changes your attitude about yourself and what you can accomplish; it frees your intellect and intuition to find creative ways to fulfill your goals and opens. It opens your mind to possibilities.

Never allow the mediocrity of others to impact your development. Where they see failure, see success. Where they envisage only darkness, view sunshine and brightness. Where others see no future, embrace light, clarity, and opportunity.

Being positive and staying positive is not a talent, and it is not hereditary, but a matter of personal choice. If you believe you can, you will. If you think you can’t, you won’t. If you accept positive thoughts and actions, you embrace success, and if you accept negativity, you embrace failure.

Thought for today: Whatever you believe you will inevitably become.

Have a positive day.

GREAT reblog Cheryl and I hope to have the same attitude as this woman when I'm 76 years old! Keeping busy, setting new goals no matter how old you are keeps you young. I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro 5 years ago and there were many people over 60 who made it to the top at 20,000 feet above sea level! It was one of the toughest things I've ever done and I'm in really good shape. It got me thinking, it's more about your attitude than physical ability b/c so many young people don't make it to the top - they can't handle the mental strength of climbing for 8 days into half the oxygen of sea level. This post inspires me to set a new physical goal!

Hi Cheryl -

Great choice or re-post!  My mom is 77 and just now deciding to retire from the life of being a Realtor®.  She is a world traveler and a gal on the go.  She tires me out just talking about what she's into :)

You got that right Kristine! Who says just because your older that you have to sit down and retire.  My thoughts are when that happens is when you start to dwindle away.  It is obvious that this woman's mind is still pretty sharp.  I hope to be able to walk in those shoes one day myself.

Guess what John.  We definitely should be paying attention to some of our older folks.  My mom is still working full time too and I want to be able to remain healthy physically and mentally until my last breath.

The city of Mississauga has a 91year old mayor Hazel McCallion! She has been voted in since the seventies. An amazing woman, although not without opposition and controversy. I heard her give a speech at my daughter's graduation two years ago. What an inspiration!

Hey Liz.  I'm sure there are quite a few people that have a problem with her because of her age.  As long as her mind is still sharp and fulfilling her duties as mayor, she's all right with me.  Thanks for visiting and your comment.
