I confess to not being "the mechanical Hanson" and for all questions about the furnace....the roof....I defer to David who can properly direct the buyer or seller to the right source for the best answer.  Mechanical is not me....I don't care HOW it works...whatever it is...the car, the furnace, the air conditioner or garage door opener....I just want the comfort of knowing it DOES work.  We were with friends of ours the other night and I relayed this "non mechanical" story and they were laughing so hard...the tears were flowing and cloth napkins soaked....so I thought I would share this for you all to enjoy ...at the expernse of my ...less than mechanical knowledge.

Children  I am the eldest of three children....and so I was the "parental experiment" for Firsts....the first time you allow or don't the privilege of or the requirement for....earning your own way....driving when you can pay your portion of the insurance...having a car when you can pay for it....being grounded etc.   We always referred  to my Father's cars as "the Chariot"...not because they were the most expensive cars...but because he treated them royally....never a smudge on the window or ding on the bumper...always well maintained and sparkling...his forever curse of my mother feeding the birds and then having to wash the car for the "presents they left in return."

My father got a new car shortly after I got my license....a bronze Plymouth Fury....I remember it well...eventually the leading cause of air pollution in the four county area with a huge blast of smoke from the tail pipe every time it started...but at this point...it was still smelling new and just off the showroom floor.  I wanted to take it on my own "maiden voyage/drive" to a shopping center about 10 miles from home.  Hooray....daylight hours....be back "in a bit" and permission granted...off I went.

car hood Down one busy street turning on to another....did my "grown up shopping" and began the short drive home.  Going thru the only major intersection on the trip that was very busy....the car gave up... sputtered and I was able to steer it to the side of the street without blocking traffic.  The fear of having to call my Dad and tell him his new chariot was inoperable was paralyzing. (For local people, a point of reference...27th street southbound turning east onto Layton Avenue)  I knew it had gas...the only thing I "knew" was that people opened the hood....so I did that hoping a Genie might appear and whisper the problem AND the remedy so that I may return the car to the garage.

My Luck....Genie was off duty and I peered VERY UNKNOWINGLY at the hoses and parts under the hood and fear overtook my entire body...palms sweating...stomach flip flopping...knees shaking as I stared at the cement street thru the mechanical maze..Talk about a Moment in Time that will live with you forever....OMG.....the thought pattern continued....

Genie

The Bottom of the Car Fell OUT ! I had never looked under the hood of any car and it seemed only logical that what had a top would have a bottom....and now...it was missing...I had not even heard it fall off...maybe someone took it while I was shopping..oh gee...that would be a ton of waitress tips and babysitting bucks to replace...my mind continued to race....faster than the Fury would ever have gone.  I ran across the intersection to the nearest gas station...pale and shaking and explaining to the mechanic on duty what had happened.....After he stopped laughing...some minutes later.....he "repaired the car".....(air in the gas line) and I was on my way home.....never having to tell my Dad that I lost I lost the "bottom" of his new chariot.

The moral of this story.....always know what you don't know....and don't be afraid to ask someone who does...just when you think that the bottom has fallen out....there is a bright spot....a knowing expert...who can help turn your situation into a positive experience....

If you are looking for a positive experience in Selling or Buying a home in Southeastern Wisconsin...call the Hansons...we promise to deliver the prompt professional service you deserve for all things real estate.

Can't say that I have learned much mechanically since then....and if someone were to tell me that they decided to put "bottoms" in cars...I would have to believe them...David doesn't understand...of course..why this ever made sense to me...and I don't understand why it doesn't.....

Obviously you IMAGINED a neat and tidy bottom on the car, covered no doubt with carpeting or other nice trappings, and when your imagination wasn't met, well, the horror!  This is a very funny story!

I bet you haven't put air in your gas line since...  stick to the tires!

It still makes some kind of non-mechanical sense to me...a shiny plated bottom...platinum .....just to catch the drops of whatever fluids may think to drip.....kind of ecologically friendly.

Sally, Now that is really funny but a great lesson to .." always know what you don't know....and don't be afraid to ask someone who does".
