And man was one . . .

Forty-three years ago today, the world stood still and watched one of the most amazing events of mankind.  For a few brief moments, enemies set aside their differences, friends stood in awed silence, individuals ignored their biases, families gathered together and gazed quietly gazed off into space, the intolerant forgot their intolerance and in a unique way, the world was one.

No matter what divided man, in that fateful moment, he was one with every other man.  It was a revelation that mankind can get along, and even thrive under the right conditions.  The irony of it all is that it didn't require anyone to accept anyone else's beliefs, thoughts or opinions.  In that one moment, mankind was united in a universal hope that a fellow human being would be successful and safe.  Take a look:

Good Morning Mike, that was an outstanding moment, I feel sad though thinking my daughter may never experience that or know the success or have the awe inspiring feeling as everyone stopped to watch a lift off or landing as our space program has been torn apart.  Have a great Saturday

I remember being in school and the teachers wheeling in a TV to watch rocket launches in class.  That was the only time we were allowed to do that and we were all so excited! Makes me sad that those days are over.  Amazing men and women were involved in that program.

Sheila, watching the video again makes my so excited at what we as a nation were able to accomplish.  I truly believe we can do grand things.

It was exciting, Scott.  Happy Saturday.

Such bravery, Kathryn.  It humbles us today to see the risks they took.

Mike -- okay, so you are saying this man on the moon thing happened and not just on a television set?  WOW -- what will they think of next?

I keep hearing rumors that it was on a TV set.  8=)  And, that was before Spielberg.  Good stuff.

I do remember it well, and I also remember so many doubters thinking it was a made up event done on a Hollywood set to promote the space agenda

Thanks, Pat.  It's always an honor.

Me too, Ed.  I can't imagine that conspiracy ever had legs.

Mike, How well I remember Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon. I was just returning from Viet Nam. We were all glued to the TVs back then, and wandered who far man would be able to travel next.

Boy oh boy, Mike!  I remember this so well!  And it's easy to forget how exciting it was to see even a fuzzy picture like that from the moon.  Now we're so spoiled with our hi def stuff from everywhere, including outer space.  That landing was a miracle and thanks for the reminder.

It was a great event, Susan.  I remember it vividly.

Yes it was, Bob.  I was just thinking of all the mayhem going on in the country at that time.  It seemed like it stopped for a couple hours.  Nobody seemed to care what else was going on.
