Technology. When “good enough” is good enough!
My video camera is now collecting dust. For a while I did a lot of videos. This blog makes me think of not only myself but others who have all sorts of gadgets that "we just had to have" yet we dont use them or dont know how to use them.
When I was a much younger man, I lived on the leading edge of technology. I had to possess the latest and greatest of everything.
In those days, technology was extremely expensive. And in many cases, the benefits of the primitive usability did not justify the high initial investment.
If nothing else, I got a good education for my money. I leaned a basic tenet of technology that has remained with me to this day:
The best technology to purchase is the one that you will actually use!
And once I have something that works “good enough,” I am no longer driven towards “better.”
In many cases “new and improved” only translates to “more expensive.” I have no desire to part with my money without a reasonable expectation of benefit.
Somehow we survived through the 50’s and 60’s without any of this stuff.
Because what we had was good enough!
