Yes! Yes! Yes! Buyers do look in garages! Sellers must take the time to clean out their garages. I was showing a house a month ago and the house was staged to perfection, windows were washed and gleaming, lights and music were on, the fountain in the back yard was flowing (what a wonderful peaceful sound) buyers were captivated! Then we opened the garage door and it looked like everything had been thrown into it. The picture in Kathy's post compared to this garage looks spotless!! My buyers were so turned off they said let's get out of here..these people don't know how to maintain a home ..the house is all window dressing! Kathy knows what she is talking about..her consultations are worth their weight in gold! Please leave comments on Kathy's post.

Boca Raton Home Staging FAQ’s-Yes Virginia, They Do Look in Garages!

When I’m providing a Staging Consultation whether it’s in Boca, Delray or Boynton Beach  I am often greeted with a look of disbelief when I break the garagebad news to them that Buyers do look in your garage.

You see, the garage is indeed part of what the buyer is buying and they need/want to see what it is they’re buying.  The operative word here is “SEE”.  

Because we don’t have basements in Florida, storage space is even more important.  

If your garage is only navigable with a GPS and hip boots then Buyers will assume that your property lacks adequate storage space.   Just as your space is cluttered, the buyer’s mind sees a lot of “stuff” and  all of this “stuff’ prevents them from seeing your 2 or 3 car garage.

What You Can Do:

1. Gather your friends, family or neighbors for help and moral support.  Have large heavy duty trash bags and large plastic storage tubs available.


2. Make 4 piles :  Trash

           Pack it up to go to your new home.

           Items you need until you move.

3. CLEAN- sweep, pressure clean, paint.  Just because it’s a garage doesn’t mean that it doesn’t want to look good. Your local home improvement store will have information on how to get rid of those oil stains

4. Organize-for items that you’ll need until you move make sure they’re stored neatly off to the side.  

Remember.... Buyers will look in your garage and they will need to see that it can hold 2 or 3 cars as the MLS says.
