If you are looking to rent a property, please be advised of the latest scam. It seems that Scam Artists, Crooks and Thieves are now advertising rentals in Craigslist and other forms of media. There is just one problem! They don't own the property!
Apparently, they are posting pictures of homes that are vacant and for sale. They steal the pictures of the property and post the property to Craigslist or the newspaper etc. They even go so far as to meet with prospective renters and show them around. Then they tell the unsuspecting customer that they will need the deposit money up front. Many people are falling for this scam and are paying the deposit...only to find out that their money is long gone and the person whom was acting as the owner also cannot be found.
If there is a Real Estate sign on the property...call the Realtor to verify that it is not a scam. If the crook meets you at the property...write down their license plate number. If they are Scam Artists...then turn the license plate number in to the police.
Always try to work with professional people when searching for a rental. A Realtor will guide you and give you advise. If your not sure about something...call your Realtor!....Wayne
