West Pasco Quilters Guild Exhibit “River of Threads” Friday 8/3/2012

The West Pasco Quilters Guild Exhibit “River of Threads” Exhibit 8/3/2012 will open at Progress Energy Art Gallery on Friday at 6pm-9pm. Progress Energy Art Gallery (PEAG) is located at 6231 Grand Blvd in New Port Richey, FL. Two doors south of the Richey Suncoast Theater. The River of Threads exhibit will be there throughout the month of August.

Collage of Quilts

The collage is from photos I took at a previous West Pasco Quilters Guild exhibit.

What do rivers and quilting have in common? (from the Quilters Guild).

They  have both been bringing people together and helping meet common needs  many years.  "Our River of Threads" is based on the same goal of bringing people together. The river starts with a spring and travels around the state to many locations.

Each  small quilt is made by a different person and it depicts an individual
vision of their river. Combining all the quilts creates a single river
and that flows in harmony, much like the quilters around our world.

We  all have individual visions of what quilting is or should be yet we all
flow in harmony. Please enjoy your journey as you travel "Our River of
Threads" from the spring headwaters to the Gulf of Mexico.

Friday is the opening night of the exhibit; refreshments and wine will be available thanks to Sweet Bay Market. Come out and see the West Pasco Quilters Guild's beautiful quilts.

Howdy and afternoon Toni

Toni my friend, those sure are some mighty fine looking small quilts! I really like the idea that they are made from the Quilters vision of their River. Folks sure should enjoy attending the West Pasco Quilters Guild Exhibit!

Have a good one

Hi Toni,  Now this takes talent and lots of time I would think.  I remember my grandmothers would do quilting at the local church and then give them to people in need.

Toni, The River of Threads exhibit sounds like it will be a delight to visit. We recently showed a house where there was a "homemade" quilt by the homeowner on almost every wall and you could tell the pride that this quilter felt in her work...

David - I used to quilt but haven't had time for it in years. This makes me want to start again. Glad Mrs. Dave like it.

Dale - they do an awesome job.

Will - our church in CA, when we lived there, did that also. A good thing to do.

Lou - thank you.

Larry & Sheila - I have a quilt that my church in CA made for my son when we adopted him. I need to display it again. I love going into homes where they have their quilts showcased.

Hi Toni, quilts are beautiful because they are .handmade with love.  I have a bed and breakfast listing and the owner makes quilts and are sold in some of the local stores.  This event should be fun and a joy to see all the quilts

That is a lot of thread there...quilting is such a great unique American tradition.  The quilts tell such intersting stories about the person receiving it and gifting it.

Kristin - They are like jewels hanging on the wall.

Rebecca - quilts are just so interesting because they do tell a story. That's great that she sells them locally.

Jennifer - they do and each is unique because everyone sews a little differently from everyone else.

Wow, what a neat hobby. Looks very time consuming, but also like it would be fun to do with a friend, and very calming. Sounds like it could be a great exhibit to visit with some girlfriends!

What a lovely image, quilting bringing people together like a river flowing.  I always visit the quilting exhibits at the State Fair.  Art in fabric.
