Wanted Realtor willing to work for 50%

Do I want a 50% chance of getting paid or should I concentrate on the buyers that I will get 100%?  A potential Commerce Twp buyer called me up a second time to see houses.  At that time they told me they were working with another Realtor too.  I politely told them that I would not show them houses if they were not committed to me.  The buyer got a little hostile and said I was crazy not to show them houses as I had a chance of selling them a house.  I explained it this way to him.

Let’s say you and another worker were employed by XYZ company.  You both go to work each day and work hard for XYZ.  Sometimes you even work nights and weekends.  Out of the blue at the end of 2 months XYZ boss calls you both in and says they have completed the job.  But unfortunately only the other worker is going to get paid because he was the lucky one that was around when the work got completed.  WHAT YOU SAY????  You came to work each day.  You spent gas to get there.  You worked hard for XYZ all the time.  Why does the other guy get paid and you don’t.  Just because he happened to be there at the right time and day the company's boss decided the job was completed.  THAT IS NOT FAIR YOU SAY!!!!  You want to get paid for the work you did.  You could have sat home, or enjoyed the nights and weekends with your family.  Instead you did all that work for nothing.  Ruined that night your wife wanted to go to dinner, you gave up a holiday weekend on the lake to work for XYZ.  It just is not right.  YOU WANT TO GET PAID!!!!

Well the same exact scenario applies when a buyer uses two Realtors.  One Commerce Twp real estate agent is not going to get paid.  One real estate agent is going to waste their time and gas and not make anything.  I think you will agree that does not make sense to go to a job like that when there are buyers that will commit to you.  A buyer that you are going to get paid 100%.    I will be glad to work and commit to doing a great job to any buyer so long as they commit to me.  I want to get paid, especially if I am giving up family time.  We cannot get the time back.  So to drive somebody around on the 50% chance of getting paid is not worth it.  I want to get paid just like you would.

So if a real estate agent says sorry I won’t show you a house because you are working with another agent you will at least know why now.  We just want to get paid for our work.  I hope you understand.

P.S.  Mr. Hostile buyer was not happy with me and ended up swearing at me and calling me a few names.  So it worked out alright for me to part ways with him.

Good Article. The words "committed to you" makes all of the difference. We have all been there with the buyer after wasting many hours of your time, say by the way I am working with another Realtor. But now we ask on the front end the question.

You made the right decision! When they are willing to throw you under the bus like that just to see a home, they will do the same when it is time to write the offer if you aren't right in front of them when the time comes.
