kobe and king snake

Wild and Wordless Wednesday came into our world yesterday evening.  Our cat Kobe a.k.a, the Intrepid Red Hunter, brought us this beautiful yellow ringed king snake.  He does not kill them, just drops them at the door and hollers his head off for attention and praise.  In return, he expects a treat or two and a victory lap, which he derserves.

We figured out out how to relocate this lovely creature to a wilder locale.  Ron and I put a basket over him,. and then slid  stiff and thin cardboard sheet under him, turned him over and relocated it.

Happy Early Wild Wednesday, Cheers Ron & Alexandra

Kobe a.k.a, the Intrepid Red Hunter, sounds like a real keeper to me!  Better Kobe brings and announces the snake rather than you find it under the sheets!  YIKES....

Alexandra- I have to agree with John- better Kobe found that snake!  I do not like snakes and had I seen it you could have heard my scream all the way in CA.  Kobe... you're definitely the Intrepid Red Hunter.

Good for you two - and of course the Intrepid Red (and apparently gentle) Hunter Kobe. Lucky snake to have slithered close to such kind creatures. :)

Ok so did the cat find and bring home the snake....or was the snake in the yard and the cat intercepted it?  There's a big difference!  If the snake was brought from somewhere else....that's a gift I wouldn't want to receive!

What a sweet looking feline Kobe is!  I had a black cat, Sabu, who had a similar personality.  He wouldn't hunt most of the time, but if a male vistor would pay me a visit, he'd immediately go on a hunt.  I remember having a computer repairman come to my home on a rainy afternoon.  He was here about an hour and a half.  When he went to leave, he had to step over a pile which consisted of a squirrel, 2 mice, and a vole, on the doormat.  I didn't even know what a vole was until the incident.  They look like a cross between a mouse and a hampster.  Sabu was trying to say he could provide for me better:-)

That is a good cat, however, he should kill the snakes first. Very pretty snake and I am kind of glad he did not kill it. Hopefully you took it far enough away so it will not benear children.

WOW! You sure fooled me. I thought it was a pretty rope from a ship or something. When you said snake, I said, "Yikes!"

Then I had to take a closer look at it. Your cat is quite the hunter and seems proud of it! What a beautiful cat. I love that you reward him and give him treats for doing his job.

You're such a good Cat Mom!

John,

Kobe has always announced his catch...this is one of the smaller snakes he has brought home.  The largest was in Napa where he found on whose girth was the size of a Alaskan king crab leg and was very long, he must have staggered home.  This one we had to coax into a trash can, put the lid on, and drive in to a field nearby.  He also was a garden variety.

Debb,

In some American Indian Tribal Medecine, the snakes are considered a symbol of transformation.  Kobe is a real sweet and loving cat.

Kathy,

You are funny, this snake is harmless and beneficial to all of us.  He is an asset in the garden as they eat slugs, mice, etc.

Chris,

I don't think, he was delighted to move from where he was, and he knew that Kobe was not going to off him!

Roy,

Ron also calls Kobe, the snake charmer!

Li,

He certainly is a daring cat.

Tony,

We adore him!  We just handle whatever he brings our way. LOL

Sharon,

He found him wherever he is wondering.  We are close to the salt marsh preservation area which leads to the ocean.  He has quite a territory to hunt in, and we suspect that is where he found this lovely creature.  In order to bring him home, he had to climb up 6 foot fences that surround our property with the snake in tow.  Abyssinians are amazing jumpers, and to do it while holding a snake is a feat...no snakes in our yard...LOL

Myrl,

I love your story about Sabu.  We do know what voles are.  While living in Napa our property had a lot of voles which our three cats would catch and leave by the front door for us.  They are a favorite of birds of prey which are encouraged by the vineyard owners.  We had two vineyards that abutted our property, and the kites (hover type birds) love the voles and we would see them dropping down like a helicopter for voles.  The hawks, our owl and our golden eagle would also feast on it.  Sabu must have felt he needed to take care of you.  What a lovely story.  A

Sussie,

We did take it far away, and this is not a poisonous snake.  I think children should know that certain snakes are beneficial and not to be feared.

Patricia,

Thanks, and we agree, he is a beautiful cat.  He is doing his job and thanking us for all the treats and care he gets from us.

William,

He is an amazing cat in finding this snake and bringing it to us via fences and whatever other obstacles he encountered on his way home.

Valerie,

He is definitely a catch and release type of guy...it is funny how some cats have that in them.

Eileen,

Thank you, we do appreciate your comments. A
