219 Market Street in Searcy Arkansas sold a few months ago.

It sold to the folks who own Salon Bliss and Boutique and they have made it beautiful.  I like the fact that they appreciate history and have actually saved a building from Searcy's past and made it the location of a successful business location again.

So it is time for a review.  First is a picture taken in by Paula Windsor when she was a child and assigned a photography project.  She took lots of downtown pictures and we have had them on this blog.

Next we have the building when owned by Person Furniture.

And here is the newly beautified building today.  Note they kept the corner entrance and the window locations.

Inside is just as lovely.  They would love to have you stop by.

I love this building, and I can't wait to see what it looks like inside. Salon Bliss is my hair salon, and I thought they had a nice place on the west end of town. before. I'm proud of them for moving downtown, which gets better and better every year.

The pixel gremlins have nibbled away at dear Paula Anne's picture so I did a fresh scan. Not bad for a 65 year old 2 X 3 photograph.

I have always loved those glass block windows. The lighted sign says FURNITURE.Building

Thanks, Valerie.

Don, that one is better and thanks for telling us how old the picture is.  It looks like the one beside it was rock.  Is that right? And what did that sign say?  A builder once told me how much those glass bricks cost to put in and they were expensive!  I'm glad they kept them too.

Thanks, Greg.  I had not noticed a tree at all.

What tree?

I'm loving the telephone pole to the right in the last picture you took, Barbara.  It has those thingees the guys climb up the pole on.  They don't do that anymore, do they?  Don't they have those bucket things that take them right up to the top of the pole?

Anita the bucket thing is called a Cherry Picker also known as a  boom liftman liftbasket crane or hydraladder. These lifts were first designed for picking fruit in orchards. They were probably first used in cherry orchards  to reach fruit high in the trees hence the name cherry picker.

Anita, I think the tree shows in each picture.  At least A tree shows. It would be interesting to know if it were the same tree.  And I do doubt that real men or women ever climb those poles anymore.

I had not noticed the pole at all.  Perhaps kids should now climb those poles instead of climbing the water towers like they did years ago.  I have been watching reruns of "The 70's Show" on my Tivo that you sleuths made me buy and it was a delightful show with kids climbing the water tower and falling off from time to time.

Don, thanks for that explanation of the lift baskets.  They did make life easier for those pole climbers, didn't they.
