Ridgefield crossing existed all alone on wide-open land. Then K Hovnanian (KHV) purchased the open land to build newer larger detached homes and a neighborhood called Lake Terrapin. As the first section of homes was being developed the homeowners in Ridgefield Crossing agreed to be annexed into Lake Terrapin creating a larger community and the confusion. Prince William County tax records do not reflect the change in name and as a result anyone who searches for home by the subdivision of Lake Terrapin will miss the homes that are legally in Ridgefield Crossing.

The main entrance to Lake Terrapin is located on Spriggs Road just ½ mile south of the intersection with Minniville Road. You can also get to the neighborhood by taking I-95 South to the Dumfries Road North (Route 234) to Spriggs Road.
