So what are the kids up to August 2012?

Everyone says how much they like to hear about the kids. Not sure I have any funny stories today or big points to make. But I will give you the big update.

Nelson my 16 year old is trying to finish up his Gold Medal of Achievement (Like Eagle Scout for Royal Rangers). I have told him once this project is complete we can work on his driver's license. He was working out with the Varsity Football team. He is one big kid. But they planned to only play him in anti run defenses, goal line stands and such. He decided to play JV again where he will start on the O line and play a lot of defense too. Our JV is a better team than are varsity and he will get better coaching. It hurt my ego, but the reality is he needs to play as much as possible. He also needs to drop down from 308 to 285 so he can wrestle. The JV coach is big on conditioning.

Nelson Working on GMA Service Project

Corbin is getting ready to start as a Freshman at De La Salle. He played travel ball and worked out over the summer to get ready for high school. De La Salle coaches run a fall ball program (baseball). His biggest challenge is he is skinny and needs to put meat on his bones. He is a left handed pitcher. He has good form, but no power yet. I think the power will come with time. He has big feet and is going to be a big tall kid. He is also trying to finish up his Gold Medal of Achievement this fall under the old program while he still can. He is behind Nelson and still needs to work on his Service Project. It will involve Social Media and I will be asking for help from all my friends at Active Rain when the time comes (soon). He will be 14 in 2 weeks.

Corbin Pitching

Weston had a great summer for a 9 year old. He went to the Royal Ranger 50th Anniversary Camporama in Missouri. We were concerned to have him away from home for a 2 week trip. He called the first 2 nights he was gone, then we did not hear from him until he got home. He had a wonderful time. It seems like he grew up some on the trip too. He is back to Karate and working his way through the green belt. School started for all of them this week except Corbin. He is now in the fourth grade and has a longer day. We know have 3 boys at the same school who all get out at different times.

Janson Weston and Sherman Ready for School

Janson - Westson and Sherman Day 1 of School.

Janson refuses to smile for anything.

Janson had a great year in Pony Baseball and is starting to take things more seriously. He is starting 2nd grade. Momma has her garden this year and he loves to go out and get into things. I caught him picking her Peas and eating them the other day and told him to stop. Dineen then told me that she had given him permission – anything to get him eating vegetables. He wants to play Fall Ball and Corbin has been training him. We canned a bunch of Jam the other night and I caught him just in time the next morning – he was trying to pry the lids of a number of jars to see what flavors we had made. (There were only two flavors and I caught him after he only opened a couple.)

Sherman has started Kindergarten. He is huge and does not turn 5 until the end of the month. He is almost as big as 8 year old Janson. I am going to have him try wrestling this fall and baseball in the spring. He is a big goofy and somewhat wild kid. I may take him camping this year with his older brothers. It really depends on his behavior. He does not listen well yet and I do not want to take him up to the mountains and have him running me ragged.

Barit is 2 and half and wants to be a big boy. He always wants to go with his brothers and gets upset when we have to leave him with mom or in Nursery while his brothers run off somewhere. The other night I woke at 2 in the morning. I heard a kid up playing and figured it was one of the older ones. I went out to chew them out and found him playing by himself. I put him back to bed with stern lecture.

Barit all Partied out

I had to put off the Great Camping Trip I take the boys on every summer. I have 3 escrows that all should have closed in July that are hung up. All Short Sales. So not only is it a money issue, but I need to stick around and herd these things to closing. I hope to take them at the end of this month or over Labor Day now.

Any way that is what the scoundrels are up to.

Looks like the kiddos have a busy summer. Nice stride out on the pitch. Can't tell if he is pushing hard, but looks good.

Wow, what is your grocery bill these days? I discovered that boys must have stomachs that go down the length of their legs... on both sides! You are a Blessed man.
