Because I said so!

Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty

Because I said so! Selling your home? Make sure you have this

If I had a dollar for every time I heard that phrase growing up I'd be a wealthy woman. If only it would work in my Real Estate Business when I'm speaking with those who are selling a home here in Coral Springs and South Florida. When I say:

  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, your home should be priced at Blank $'s to effectively compete in today's Real Estate Market
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, your home needs to be in Tip Top Shape if you indeed want to get top dollar for selling your hone.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, you need to catch Mr. or Ms. Buyer at the curb; nicely manicured lawn, potted flowers, dirt where it belongs in the flower beds and not on the sidewalks, doorways or roof top and trash cans neat & tidy.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, keep your home clean and clutter free. Yes, I know it's a lot of work to sell your home, yet cleanliness goes a long way.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, make your beds nicely each day when you rise.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, have your Kitchens sparkling with dishes washed or in the dishwasher
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, have fresh towels out and countertops empty in your Bathrooms, as Buyers only want to see decorative items.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, have your home smelling good. Try this tip with Vanilla Extract
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, get rid of anything that is splling over such as too much stuffed into a closet.
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, make sure your home's furniture is placed to allow for easy flow when Buyers come through and highlights any special features of your home like a fireplace
  • Mr. or Ms. Seller, trust me, "Because I said so"

Okay, I know, it would never work however, when Sellers are represented by Competent, Trusted, Real Estate Professionals who have had great success in selling homes, it could easily be an recommended course of action for any Seller knowing that they're receiving the best of care.

....Experience Isn't Expensive.... It's Priceless!

Hello Lynn,

If it were only as simple as "because I said so!"

Lynn - I've found some success in working with my sellers in developing the "list..."  We talk about the pluses and the minuses of each item ... and it SOMETIMES results in seller ownership.  However, in fairness, that commitment has a limited life-span ... the longer the DOM the harder it is for sellers to remain motivated.

HI Lisa,we can dream!:)

Hi Jack, if Sellers are committed from day one, that is when the results are most favorable for success like you mentioned.

Hi Keller Williams Team Realty, you're right on!

Your headline reminded me of my neighbor lady. She has Alzheimers and thus a care giver. Recently at breakfast the woman asked if she'd like more juice and she said no. But the woman persisted. Finally she said "WHY don't you want more juice?" My neighbor, who was once a well-respected pathologist with a staff to manage, said "Because I said so."

I guess she hasn't forgotten everything about being in authority.

Oh I know, you must feel like a broken record at times.  If only they would listen.  It would be so much better for everyone involved.

Hi Marte, I love your story...we never forget those "because I said so" moments.

Hi Debbie, yes, if only everybody would listen all the time things would go ever so smoothly. I enjoyed your "broken record" comment and had to laugh as not all would understand that today; what is a broken record or for that matter what is a record. LOL :)

I've got one I'm interviewing for tomorrow that is making me feel a bit like facing an uphill battle.  I think I will end up walking away because I don't see the sellers wanting to put in ANY effort.

Hi Chris Ann, when you're in sales the uphill battles can be a challenge to try and get the Sellers to understand for their own benefit yet, sometimes we just can't get them to see our way and you're right, as sometimes it is just better to walk away when no effort is willing to be put forth to sell your home. Good luck tomorrow!

Lynn- "because I said so" reminds me of parents speaking to their children.  Wouldn't it be nice if sellers listened to your every word.  I had clients who despite my suggestions (and those of their Realtor) refused to leave the house during showings.  It would have been nice because then she could have taken her very large dog with her.

Kathy, you're right as I think we've all heard that as kids. I've had to laugh when I pulled that one on my son :) You'd think our customers would listen to us as, after all, they hired us to sell their home or in your case stage their home so they must have thought we have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done.
