informational hierarchy on signage

Is it just me or does it seem like a good idea that if someone is going to advertise a home for sale that the ADDRESS should be readable from 20 feet away on the sign? I was standing on the street corner to take this photo and I could not read the address from the curb across from the median. Imagine if a customer was driving down the street. 35mph zone. Any chance they will see the address? Nope. There are at least two FSBOs in the neighborhood. I am not sure which one this sign was promoting.

Pointer signs should have something specific on them such as name, phone number, address, etc. And it should be readable. Just stating that there is a house for sale in the neighborhood isn't doing anyone much good. Nearly every neighborhood in Overland Park has at least one house for sale. So its not exactly news.

Put the important stuff first, whether it is a FSBO sign, real estate markeing company sign, web page, or whatever

.For sale sign

Hello Ken,

I am surprised the HOA allowed that sign out in the main median...most would not!

Overland Park is fairly lax on that. In parts of Leawood though, the sign is unlikely to survive until morning. :)

Thanks,

Ken

That is so true! This sign says, "Hey, somewhere around here there's a house for sale."

Thanks Rebecca, yes it does. Being the search expert that you are, you know that being present does not make you stand out from the crowd. You have to actually be different. I forgot who wrote this but, if everyone is wearing lime green clothes, then lime green clothes no longer stand out. If everyone has a sign in their yard or at the entry median nothing stands out. My clients enjoy that fact that I use reflective yard signs so their house is more visible at night. Especially helpful during the fall and winter months when there is less daylight. Here is another crazy idea, make the phone number big and easy to read. Then home buyers can actually take action and call you to find out about the home.

Ken-You make the good point that sometimes the obvious is not always so obvious. If you've got something to sell it helps to have a way to contact the person who can make it happen.

Thanks Wayne. Sometimes its a good idea to contact a business (like us) who specializes in real estate advertising, Including readable signs.  :) I use reflective yards signs to give my clients the advanteage of being noitice by those driving around in the evening or dark. Especially during winter when the sun sets so early. Thank you for chatting.
