The Ridges Golf CourseBefore moving to the mountains from the Sunshine State I loved to come up each year with three friends and play several rounds of golf. Golfing in the mountains of northeast Georgia and western North Carolina is not only a blast but challenging. The greens are very fast. If you're interested in golfing, some fantastic golf courses are tucked away in these beautiful mountains. Here are some of your options:

 In the Hiawassee/Young Harris, Georgia area:

Open year-round, this 18 hole golf course located in Young Harris features a variety of landscapes and breathtaking scenery. Golf Digest and Leading Golf Courses of America have ranked it one of the top courses to play in Georgia. There are full practice facilities and a golf pro on site, and the course offers five sets of tees to accomodate all levels of players.


In Hayesville, North Carolina:
Chatuge Shores Golf Course

Bordering Lake Chatuge, this Par 72, 18 hole public course features a driving range, putting green, snack bar, tennis course, and swimming pool which the general public can use. The course yardage is 6498/Blue Tee, 6147/White Tee, 5051/Gold Tee and 4801/Red Tee. The course is open year round except for Christmas Day.
Mountain Harbour @ The Ridges

This 18 hole, Par 72 championship course can accomodate beginner through advanced level players. The course features a driving range and pro shop. Mountain Harbor is a 6,767 yard course with a USGA Rating of 71.3 and USGA Slope of 124.


In Blairsville, Georgia:

At 7,667 yards and with five different sets of tees, golfers of any level can enjoy playing on this beautiful course. For practice facilities, it has a double tiered grass range that stretches 400 yards, 2 separate short game target greens, and a full putting green. The course also offers lessons and clinics by Director of Golf, PGA Professional Ryan Scott.

This 18 hole course, featuring rolling valley holes and challenging mountain slopes, offers 6500+ yards and 4-6 tee boxes on every hole to suit every player.
In Murphy, North Carolina:

The 18-hole regulation course at the Cherokee Hills Country Club facility in Murphy, North Carolina features 6,324 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 70.0 and it has a slope rating of 113. There is also a driving range with 12 tees.

This Par 72, 18 hole golf course, designed by Bill Watts, was rated among Golf Digest's Best Places to Play in 2006/2007. Golfers will appreciate the beauty of the scenery of Alpine Helen. The course yardage is 6502/Blue Tee, 5991/White Tee, 5472/Yellow Tee, and 4725/ Red Tee.

I have not played on all of these courses yet, but I have no doubt each of them will not only be a challenge but beautiful. If you have a favorite course that I have not included in this list please let know.
