Gateway Auto Museum...Where Else Can You See An 1954 Oldsmobile F 88? Nowhere is the answer. The Gateway Auto Museum is home of the only known 1954 Oldsmobile F 88 in existence today. This automobile is the the highlight of the museum. It has it's own showroom on a revolving display.
There were only two known Oldsmobile F 88s made. There are rumors of a third one, but these are unconfirmed. John and Maureen Hendricks bought the car at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale, AZ for 3.24 million dollars.
Hendricks is the founder of Discovery Communications and the Discovery Channel, and automobiles are his passion. The Gateway Auto Museum is well planned out with 8 galleries covering different turning points in automobile and US history.
The Gateway Auto Museum covers such an extensive automobile history that it needs over 30,000 square feet with more than 40 cars and motorcycles.
The location itself is enough to take you back in time and make you think of a different era...perhaps one where you had your favorite car as a teenager, or you remember your grandfather's treasured roadster. Gateway, Colorado is nestled among red rock cliffs and canyons where the beginning of time meets the middle of nowhere. The Gateway Auto Museum is a featured part of Gateway Canyons Resort. You can spend the day, or the night, but you should certainly make sure the museum is part of your visit.
