Lake Chatuge is actually Chatuge Reservoir and located on the Hiawassee River in Western North Carolina but this 13-mile long stretch of waterway extends southward down to the dam in North Georgia. Named after a nearby Cherokee Indian settlement construction of Chatuge Dam began in 1941 and was completed in 1942. The dam is 144 feet high and 2,850 feet across the Hiawassee River and has a flood-storage capacity of 62,600 acre-feet. The 7,000 acre lake offers 133 miles of shoreline.

Boating on Lake Chatuge
Boating on Lake Chatuge provides an entirely different prospective of our community than the one you get from the shores of Lake Chatuge. From Lake Chatuge you can view the home that resembles a castle, the boat slip addition made to look like the Statue of Liberty, the back side of the Georgia Mountain Fair Grounds, and experience the feeling of approaching the Lake Chatuge dam where it looks as though you could easily drop off of the end of the earth. Explore the coves that finger along the shores of Lake Chatuge and view the lovely foot paths the Lake Home owners have sculpted to enhance their experience of Lake Home ownership.
Relaxing on Lake Chatuge
There is also much to be said about the beautiful views of Lake Chatuge offered from vantage points throughout Hiawassee GA, Young Harris GA, and Hayesville NC. To sit on a front porch and watch as a distant gentle rain shower makes its way over the ridge of a mountain and across the glistening waters of Lake Chatuge is about as tranquil a moment as you can find. If you are looking to truly get away from it all. If you are looking to relax and recharge then come to Lake Chatuge. Whether you want to just kick back and relax or spend a day of adventure in a spectacularly beautiful setting, Lake Chatuge has something for everyone.
