concerts at the cove flyerThings to Do in Alameda:  The last Concert at the Cove will take place on Friday, August 10th starting at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  Billed as the Battle of the Bands this free concert will be held on the lawn near the Crab Cove Visitor Center at 1251 McKay Avenue.  Bring your blanket, picnic basket and enjoy a beautiful evening with great music.



Things to do in Alameda:  The 7th annual Frank Bette Plein Air Paintout exhibit and reception will be held on  August 10, at 7:00 pm at Frank Bette Center for the Arts at 1601 Paru Street.  You may have noticed artists around town painting scenes of Alameda. The plein air artists will exhibit their paintings they painted in Alameda during the week long paintout. Come and see if they painted your house or street.

Things to do in Alameda: Alameda Walks on August 11 at 9:00 am meets at Grand Marina at the north end of Grand Street parking lot.  The Alameda Sun publishers Dennis Evanosky and Eric Kos will wow us with their knowledge of Alameda history and the juicy tidbits that spice up their tours.  This walk will last an hour and a half and we learn some interesting facts about Alameda with a little exercise thrown.

 

Things to do in Alameda:  Alameda South Shore Center and Off the Grid will be back with more food trucks on August 11, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the South Shore Center parking lot near Petco.  Eight to ten trucks will including Adam’s Grub Truck, Curry Up Now, Fins on the Hoof, House of Siam, Five Ten Burger, Mayo & Mustard, Nick’s Wheely Good Breakfast, Pacific Puffs and The Chairman.  Just reading the list of vendors makes my tummy rumble.  Yummy.



Things to do in Alameda:  The Alamedas Farmer’s Market is open to the public Saturday, August 11 and Tuesday, August 13 morning from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine.  Don’t miss the opportunity to shop for delectable fruits and vegetables.  The market is at Webster Street and Haight Avenue.

Alameda threatre 80th anniversary logo


The 80th Anniversary of the Historic Alameda Theatre on August 16. The theatre will feature its 1932 line up of movies including Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Betty Boop, Laurel & Hardy and live music for 80 cents admission and 80 cent popcorn.  The theatre is located at 2317 Central Avenue in Alameda.



USS Hornet and Untold Heroism of the World War II 1st and 2nd Filipino Regiments The Hornet will be honoring the Filipinos who fought to liberate the Philippines on August 18 at the Hornet 707 W. Hornet Avenue, Pier 3 in Alameda.



Zumbathon Dance Party to benefit Rhythmix! on Sunday, August 19 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Rhythmix Cultural Works at 2513 Blanding Avenue.



The Alameda Museum Lecture series on Thursday, August 30, at 7:00 pm will feature Devin Frederick who will talk about his research about the oldest commercial building in Alameda, the Encinal Saloon, now known as Gim’s Chinese Restaurant.  The Museum is located at 2324 Alameda Avenue and the fee for non-members is $10.  The lecture is free to members of the Alameda Museum.

Evelyn I love how Alameda does a lot of family events, it brings back memories when I was growing up as a kid my parents used to look for "fun, free & family events":)))
