Conner Prairie is an interactive history park with so much to do. You step back in time to the 19th century visiting a school house, you can earn some wages by helping with chores and you can spend those earnings at the General store. There are 15 buildings in town and some date back to the 1800’s. It is very interactive for the kids and adults will enjoy it too. There are many programs to choose from including:
- Threads of Time: Historic Textiles
- 19th Century Clothing – 100 years of Fashion
- Artifact Identification
- Restoration Tour of the Conner House (19th Century)
In addition there is also an 1859 Balloon Voyage from March 31-October 31 where you can actually become a Jr Aeronaut and learn to fly the balloon. And of course top it off with a real balloon ride 350 above the Prairie…the views will be breathtaking!
During the Halloween Season they have the Hayrides and the Headless Horseman often appears.
In December they have a Gingerbread contest; with so many beautiful entries to stroll and admire!
During the summer, the Prairie is home to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. They perform in an outdoor pavilion amidst people scattered across the lawns with their picnic baskets and chairs. This week (August 10 and 11th) is Vivaldi’s the Four Seasons and next week is a Tribute to the Beatles! You’ll hear people rave about Symphony on the Prairie!
Located just north of 131st street off of Allisonville Road, Conner Prairie is full of things to do around the year.
