Tips for sellers part 1

Whenever you paint or stain walls, woodwork, windows, cabinets, etc, make a "story board" on a scrap piece of wood showing the paint or stain and where it was used.

different paint and stain on scrap wood

Even if you're not thinking of selling sometime in the future, you most likely will need to touch up an area damaged by accident or just plain updating the area.  All you need to do is go to the "shop" or garage area where you keep unused paint or stain and check the "story board" to see which paint or stain you need for the job.

Being a homeowner for over 45 years, this can save a lot of unnecessary work, and it just might be a "deal maker" when a prospective buyer sees the "story board" when touring the home.

Any added thought are most welcome.

Ken, that's different. I just write on the top of the can what it is and where is was.

Ken a story board sounds like a great idea.  I won't have to but one together since I don't paint or stain:)

Ed;  I used to do that also, but when paint covered the can top, I couldn't read it any longer, so when my wife was not sure what stain to use for the new baseboard, I made this sample for her.  Now it's in my shop, a great personal reference for us.

Jennifer, someone has to do it, get your painter or handyman to make one up.  It can save you from re-doing a whole room using the wrong stain or paint.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Love this idea Ken! A story board wouldn't get thrown away by mistake like an old paint can might! Great thinking!

This is a great idea. Like others have commented the can may get thrown away but this is a keeper!
