Don't Be Dorky, the Sequel: Writing with Soul, a Free SWS Teleseminar

Education & Training with Sell with Soul

Free TeleseminarLike it or not, most real estate agents feel the need to include written communication in their prospecting efforts. That communication may take the form of letters to one’s sphere of influence or mass-mailing to a geographic farm or emailed newsletters or blogs or websites or newspaper advertising or online profiles – and most take advantage of several of these marketing venues.

And when we put something written out there in the world, we’re hoping to inspire the person who sees it to first, READ IT and second, be positively impacted by what they read, to the point where they would consider hiring us for their real estate needs, or referring us to others.

This seems like DUH concept, right? That if we’re going to take the time and energy, and maybe spend a few dollars, that we’d like to see a return on our investment in the form of additional business?

But what do most real estate agents do when faced with the necessity of putting their self-promotional stuff on paper… or online as the case often is? When they have to self-promote in writing?

They play it safe… they ask their brokers for sample form letters. They go online and purchase packages of fill-in-the-blank letters for every occasion. They buy postcards and personal brochures from printing companies proclaiming the expertise and professionalism of the “agent whose card is enclosed!” They subscribe to a monthly emailed newsletter that they can customize with their name, picture and new listings. They might even purchase articles or blogs that allow them to change the name of the city or market area, but otherwise are all written for them.

Around here, we call this approach "Dorky." And by "dorky" we mean boring, predictable and thus, sadly, ineffective.

But YOU don't have to be Dorky, even if you aren't the world's most gifted writer, truly you don't! YOU can create NON-Dorky written material that will have the desired effect of inspiring your reader to smile and think of you fondly... and as someone they'd trust with their real estate business and referrals.

Excellent advice. I have a tendency to "play it safe" which is, I guess, pretty dorky!
