Texas Sales Tax Free Weekend 2012. It's that time of year again for the State of Texas to have it's "Sales Tax Holiday", Aug. 17 (Fri.), 18 (Sat.), and 19th (Sun.).
Are you new to Texas, and haven't heard about this weekend? It happens one weekend a year right before school starts and applies mostly to clothes and school supplies priced under $100. Local and state sales tax will not be collected on certain back-to-school items.
I happened to go out on one of these weekends a long time ago without knowing about about it and the stores were packed, and baskets were filled to the brim. If you're not into crowds and long lines, and don't really need to shop this weekend, you might want to change your plans : ) Traffic around the malls and shopping centers will also be more congested than normal.
There are some stipulations to this sale, it doesn't apply to everything, and I did see quite a few people that were frustrated once they got to the registers, only to find out that the items they had picked out weren't eligible.
If you go to the Sales Tax Holiday/Tax-Free Weekend link it will give you more details on what is included.
