Girls, Inc. of the Island City After School Program


Girls Inc. of the Island City has developed a new program for girls in grades 1 to 5, to inspire all girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold.  The first session the girls will participate in is the “Girls Inc. National identity Programs:  Project Bold and Media Literacy.”


The Bold theme will be the focus of the fall session from August 27 to December 21, 2012. The sessions are designed to help girls develop self-reliance and life skills, “a core area identified as critical to addressing the challenges faced by all girls” according to Kristina Kind, Development and Communications Coordinator.

The After School Girls Program enrollment session will be held at the Girls Inc on August 22 from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at 1724 Santa Clara Avenue. Call Natalie Duarte at 510-521-1743 ext. 203 for more information.

“Girls Inc. National Identity Programs offered this Fall:

Project Bold SM Girls build skills and personal power for avoiding or dealing with hurtful or dangerous situations. Caring staff assist them in identifying and acknowledging people and resources that contribute to their safety. Parents have a key role in supporting girls throughout the program.


Girls Inc. Media Literacy® Girls increase their awareness of the scope and power of the media and the effects of media messages on girls and women. They learn to analyze critically what they see and hear in the media, advocate for change in entertainment, news, and advertising media, and create images that are more realistic and reflective of their lives.”
