Chicago Neighborhoods or Community Areas

In Chicago, like in most major metropolitan markets, the city’s real estate market is split into neighborhoods or community areas.  Most of the locals know the ‘secret’ name of their home turf.  Outsiders are usually challenged by the names of these markets.  In our website: buyingahomechicago.com we separate out the listings for each of the 77 Chicago Community Areas or large Neighborhoods as defined as defined by the City of Chicago in the following map:

For real estate purposes the local MLS, MRED, uses these community areas or Large Neighborhoods to segment the location of the properties for sale.  

 

However it does get more complicated than just these 77 Community Areas or large Neighborhoods, there are over 200 small Neighborhoods as defined by the City of Chicago but there is no way to search the multiple listing service for property listings by these 200 Neighborhoods. 

 

Just for fun we looked at the largest real estate markets within the City as defined by the total amount of property listed for sale in the Community Area or large Neighborhood.  The ten largest real estate markets are:
