65 Years Young! Celebrating Leduc #1 Energy Center With a Mural Unveiling!
In 1947, Alberta's history was changed forever by the discovery of oil.
The site of that particular blow out had been contaminated by the oil and has been reclaimed by building the Leduc # 1 Energy Center, where people from all over can come and learn about it and Alberta's history in oil & Gas.
This weekend is the 65th Anniversary Extravaganza on August 18th and 19th with interesting exhibits and fun for the whole family!
Various dignitaries from Provincial Ministers to Mayors of surrounding cities came to speak about how great our province is and the impact oil has had on our Provincial economy.
My friends and mentors Kathie Henderson and Jack Ellis have been working on murals depicting the history of Alberta's oil and unveiled the first 2 of 7 canvasses!
Here is the area where the murals will live. Original Art & Prints by both artists are on display for sale.
After the unveiling,
Both Kathie and Jack took turns explaining the canvas and what it was depicting from the 'Big Bang' up to the '30's where people would drive up to the derricks and get oil for their cars in cans...
A very fascinating place to visit and learn. Funding is needed to continue the mural on for 5 more canvasses depicting the rest of Alberta's oil history from the '30's on and into the future!
Stop by and see Jack and Kathie who will be painting as well this weekend for your viewing pleasure!
Tell 'em Peg sent ya!
