Summer Tomatoes

I love this time of year.... tomatoes are at their best and since I love and eat tomatoes most every day, I get to really, really, enjoy them!

This year is no exception.... the salad below of red and yellow/orange organic, heirloom tomatoes is simply dressed with some salt, pepper and a few drops of extra virgin olive oil....  mmmmm good!

Summer Tomatoes

Can't wait to dig in... packing this house in Menlo Park will have to wait as we savor our salad!

So how many Italians do you know that "do not" love tomatoes?  Here's one Peggy.  I'll eat tomatoe sauce on anything and if a tomatoe is on my plate or in a salad, I'll eat it, but I've never grown one, bought one or craved one.  Call me crazy!  Oh, maybe plum tomatoes, but I cooked them down with onions and portobello mushrooms, olive oil and some seasonings and put that mixture on top of a crusty bread...............yum!

Peggy, I can't think of anything better in the summer...a home grown tomato sandwich...a little mayo and lot of salt!

Yes, Laura - and I've read that heirloom NJ tomatoes are being re-cultivated; back in the 50's they were soooo good :)

They look so good Peggy. Too bad they don't grow well where I am. And tomatoes from the grocery store aren't any good. Have to go to farmers markets to get them.

Peggy, those look beautiful and delicious.  Did you grow them?  Freshly picked tomatoes have so much flavor, unlike store bought ones which are picked green and then gassed to make them red.  At least that's what I've heard.  Several of my neighbors are serious tomato growers and connoisseurs.
