Middle Georgia Events: The Hambone Jam in Fort Valley GA
If fantastic BBQ is your "thang" then The Hambone Jam in Fort Valley GA on September 7th and 8th, 2012, is the venue for you! The Hambone Jam is recognized by the Georgia Barbecue Association as the GA Championship Barbecue Competition and is an automatic qualifer for the World Food Championships, held in Las Vegas in November, in the BBQ category.
The Hambone Jam runs from 3:00pm - 6:00pm on Friday and 11:00am - 6:00pm on Saturday.
Categories
The categories this year in the main competition are Pork Loin, Pulled Pork, and Ribs. Come out, watch, and learn from those who have perfected their craft.
Prizes
Cash is king and the payouts are excellent. See below for details.
- Grand Champion: $3,000 and a 36″ smoker from Jack’s Old South Smokers
- Reserve Champion: $1,500
- 3rd Place: $500
- 4th Place: $250
- 5th Place: $175
- 6th-10th: Certificate

Entertainment
In addition to the contest, there will be games and a play area for kids, plenty of arts and crafts, as well as model railroads on display.
Those in attendance Friday evening from 8pm-11pm can jam to the southern sounds of Uncle Earl & Friends and the Saturday AM crew can check out the vintage cars at the "cruise in".
Desserts are provided by The Pound Cake Company. YUM!
