With most Glenview area schools opening this week, I thought this might be a good time to talk about some ways to brighten lunches for those students who carry theirs from home. How about trying some of these ideas!
1. Go Shopping. Any idea that starts with "go shopping" has to be a good one, in my opinion. In this case, what you're shopping for are foods that your kids will love and that are easy to pack and carry to school.
2. Get Kids Involved. Get your children involved by taking them shopping with you to look for exciting new food choices, then get them more involved when it comes time to pick their choices for the day. Let them select the fruit they want, what type of sandwich they prefer, a dessert--the list goes on. If they chose it, they may be more likely to eat it as well.
3. Make a Menu. Old favorites have a place in Glenview school lunches as well as new foods. Why not create a menu of what your kids like to eat and then have them select items for the week. Be sure you do this far enough ahead that you'll have time to shop for what they want.
4. Be a Cut-Up. Try slicing and dicing foods so it takes on a whole new look for your students. Sliced cucumbers, sandwiches or cheese cut with a cookie cutter, heart-shaped brownies, or strips of lunch meat may all entice your kids to eat their school lunch. You can either surprise them with your creations or let them help by wielding a cookie cutter themselves.
5. Send a Note. Of course, you won't want to be too mushy (other kids may be looking) but try sending little notes of love, encouragement, thinking-of-you, or jokes.
6. Don't Forget Dessert. Most of us probably look on dessert as the best part of our meal, so don't forget it! Try to think of different things you can send such as Krispy Treats, snack-sized candy bars, home-made cookies or donuts, or some Mom-made specialty that they already know and love.
Let's help our kids enjoy school and do well with their studies by sending them a nutritious lunch that will give them the energy they need to get things done. Now that school's back in session, it's a great opportunity to househunt in the Glenview area. Give The Marla Schneider Team a call today at 847-657-3790 or contact us online.
