As a principal broker, agents getting into the business have started asking me "Is now even a good time to get in the market? I heard the market is was bad."
Real estate is and always has a been a business, where you get what you put into it. Some of our brokers count 2007 as one of their best years in real estate. The truth is, for several years business has been easier. Listings sold in a fairly reasonable time frame or over night and some of our marketing and sales skills got a little rusty.
Buyers were easy to find, but sometimes we had to write several offers and walk our buyer through bidding wars, before successfully closing a buyer side. In some ways buyers were more work than normal due to the lack of inventory.
There is plenty of business in most markets, but you have find it and get it. Experienced and new brokers need to make a plan and work their plan. Selecting 3 or 4 prospecting methods they are comfortable working. A goal without a planned tactics on how achieve the goal is just a wish. A goal combined with strategies and tactics is the foundation of a successful goal achieving year.
I sometimes think new brokers have advantage starting a career when the market is not a fever pitch. They bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the table. Over the years I have seen new brokers reach financial success in all types of markets. So if you are thinking of getting into real estate, any time is good time, but you have to be prepared to put the time and effort in to your career.
