Anyone who has spend time looking for a home in the city of Chicago can tell you that the neighborhoods and community areas can be confusing. The City is broken into 77 Community Areas that are often talked about as Neighborhoods. In reality there are over 200 neighborhoods in the city. How these neighborhoods and community areas intersect is often confusing. For example Chicago's Near North Community Area, which is bounded the Chicago River on the south and west sides and North Avenue on the north has five neighborhoods inside its boundries. These neighborhoods are some of the most popular and expensive in the city of chicago and they include: Streeterville, Gold Coast, Near North, River North, Old Town, Cabrini Green and most of Goose Island. The map shown on the right provides both the boundaries of the Near North Community Area and when you run you mouse over the map you can see the neighborhoods overlay the Community Area.
The MLS of Chicago does not provide for a separation by neighborhood but does provide for a separation by Community Area. So if you are searching for homes in one of these neighborhoods: Streeterville, Gold Coast, Near North, River North, Old Town, Cabrini Green and most of Goose Island you will need to start your search in the Near North Community area and then refine your search to the specific neighborhood.
Note: I had a really cool mouse over image overlay that just won't work here on the Active Rain Blog (Where the neingborhoods would appear ove the map when you ran your mouse over the map). I've notified tech support but in the interim I've simply listed both maps.
