BOXD in Carlsbad, a New Unique Restaurant in Carlsbad Village
BOXD, a recently opened eatery in downtown Carlsbad Village, is one of the more unique places to eat in the area.
So what makes BOXD unique and so worth a visit, as I did yesterday while out touring Carlsbad homes for sale?
First, BOXD is a modified shipping container. Not only does it look a bit odd (but it sure is secure once they close up shop) but it sits on a large lot in the heart of town, something you don’t see with area restaurants.
BOXD’s large lot is park-like…intentionally. It’s surrounded by a wrought iron fence reminiscent of Central Park in NYC, and there are tables, chairs and umbrellas scattered about (with TONS of space between, as you would find in a park and NOT at a restaurant) for casual eating, relaxing and watching the passers-by in downtown Carlsbad Village just 2 blocks from the beach.

The BOXD menu is fairly limited, and everything is served on waffles…“handcrafted waffle food!” Don’t be mislead – these are pretty thin waffles, not the thick Belgian waffle kind you have at breakfast – so for the most part these are sandwich-like in nature. There are breakfast and lunch-type “entrée sandwiches,” including peanut butter and jelly, and dessert offerings (e.g., nutella and banana), and pricing is modest - $4, $5 and $6, with a short list of beverages.
