This afternoon, on my way back from showing some mountain property west of Loveland CO, I was treated to a lovely surprise - a meadow full of elk. Herds are rarely seen at this low an altitude - I'd guess that the extensive loss of habitat to this summer's wildfires has changed their behavior patterns significantly.
They completely ignored the large crowd that stopped to watch them feed. Note toward the end of the video the large male asserting his rank over an uppity younger male - it's pretty obvious who is running the show.
Nature is always on display here, whether it's elk, bald eagles, coyotes - we even have a small black bear causing trouble in our neighborhood. This is why I love living in Colorado.
