Perfect Peaches in Palisade Colorado
We were finally in Colorado on the last leg of our trip and I told my husband to get off the highway because it was peach season.
There is nothing quite like freestone peaches from the Colorado western slope in late August and early September. The window of opportunity to get the fresh picked juicy gems was very small and I wasn’t going to miss it.
He asked me why we couldn’t just got to the grocery store when we got home and buy some. I looked at him like he was crazy and he said “Ok Ok I’m getting off.”
We didn’t have to drive far to find many peach stands just waiting for us.
They had a sample of the peaches by the register. I tasted the sweet juicy morsel and then stuffed one in my husband’s mouth and said “this is why we don’t just go to the grocery store.”
He saw the light and bought two boxes of peaches, 12 ear of fresh corn, 5 pounds of tomatoes and some locally made honey.
After unpacking this weekend and getting caught up on the piles of mail on my desk, I plan to make wonderful things with the peaches. I’m thinking jams, canned peaches and of course peach pie. Maybe I should have bought 3 boxes…….
