The Eyes Have It!

By
Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties Licensed in Connecticut

There's nothing like a bunch of farm babies to put a smile on your face! Although there is something very spooky about the eyes of goats and sheep. Very spooky indeed.

We saw these beauties at March Farm in Bethlehem today. We took the
kids there for a romp in the playground. (The grandkids as in kids, not kids as in... goatbaby kids, although there were two newborn kids in a little house with their mommy.)  A good day was had by all, and I got myself some great photos today!

And in case you were wondering... a goat (and sheep, and most animals with hooves) have rectangular pupils which allow them to see from 320-340 degrees. We people see 160-210 degrees. So, goats pretty much have eyes in the back of their heads... ask any kid, that is pretty spooky!

I say the EYES have it!

Never knew that goats have rectangular pupils, and as a little boy I use to ride a goat. Kids are not afraid of anything even goats

Rectangular pupils...I did not know about them. Gosh what wonderful things we learn right here on AR. Sounds like a good time and thanks for sharing.

Good morning, Andrea. You are right about the rectangular pupils. It is hard to find that "blind spot" in goats and sheep...

Kathy, thank you, hope you have a fantastic Sunday.

Jon, kids have no fear, you are right. You used to ride a goat to get places... or ride a goat because you could. I am laughing, have a picture in my head of you on a goat....

Sussie, the curly headed guy is a sheep. Isn't that wool amazing? More amazing to me that it is so dirty before we end up wearing it, LOL.

Margaret, yes, sheep have that too, but you just don't notice it as much. Goats eyes are very... scary.. LOL.

Michelle, LOL, me too!

Hello Tony & Darcy, have a fantastic Sunday and a great week. Thank you!

Roger, you did..... LOL.

Michael, it is hard to find that blind spot. They bring a new meaning to "eyes in the back of your head".

Rebecca, thank you! And yes, they do have better field of vision, better night vision.

I have always found goat eyes a bit disconcerting. Now I know why they are that way, survival. Nature has a way of evening out the playing field.

Roger, me too, LOL.

Sheila, we learn something new every day, don't we!

Jim, me too. I guess that is why they are always in those horror movies, LOL. Poor things got a bad rap if you ask me.

Jeanne and Ralph, they are fun to photograph, but they don't stand still, and certainly don't say "cheese". More often than not my photos are blurry because they moved, or show the hind end.

Hi Andrea,

I think they are so cute. I love all animals and their eyes are very special. When I go to the zoo, I like to full pictures of the animals and their surroundings and then I like to take a close up of their face as it is so special. Love the sheep.
